Endowment fund

Endowment fund

The Proton Therapy Endowment Fund (NFPRT) was established in 2010 to raise awareness of a new, gentler form of radiotherapy.

Proton therapy was not available in the Czech Republic at the time the Endowment Fund was established, and moreover, knowledge about the benefits of this treatment was minimal, even among the professional public. The main goal of the Endowment Fund was education and raising awareness of proton therapy in the Czech Republic.

The Proton Therapy Endowment Fund has undergone a number of changes over the years and expanded its scope in the field of individual assistance and comprehensive non-healthcare services for patients of the Prague Proton Center.

NFPRT helps all Proton Center patients who need support or assistance before or during treatment.

    Patient meetings

Every month, as part of patient meetings, you can meet representatives of the Endowment Fund, doctors, nurses, physicists and Client Service workers, as well as some patients who have already recovered. With all of them, you have the opportunity to talk about anything that interests you or concerns you. Sharing of personal stories and experiences between patients at different stages of treatment and recovery forms an integral part of the meetings.

    • We make your stay at the Proton Center more pleasant

Whether you come to the Proton Center for consultation, examination or radiation, you most probably appreciate the possibility of having refreshments in the cafeteria, which the Endowment Fund runs for you on the 5th floor. You can also shorten the possible waiting time by reading inspirational publications from our bookcases.

  • Accommodation

Accommodation at the Pawlovnia Hotel is available for patients of the Proton Therapy Center who cannot travel from home for treatment. This hotel is managed by the Proton Therapy Foundation and only our patients and their relatives are accommodated here.

The hotel is located in the Rokoska residential area within walking distance of the Proton Center (about a 15 minute walk). The hotel has 15 rooms, a garden, a parking lot, an elevator and a common room with a dining room where breakfast is served, if you are interested we can arrange lunch/dinner. Every month, we organize a patient meeting in common areas, attended by our doctors and other specialists.

… you will help save a life

Did you think that when it comes to cancer treatment, money only helps when we are talking about the treatment itself, medical expenses or drugs? The reality is that finances are sometimes needed before a patient even begins to consider their treatment options. For some of them, only geographical distance can be an obstacle to proton treatment – and not necessarily from foreign countries, because the distances are also considerable between individual cities in the Czech Republic.

Although the issue of patient accommodation is not often discussed, the Proton Therapy Endowment Fund covers this area as part of its patient services. In November 2022, we managed to secure the capacities of the Pawlownia Hotel, which is located within walking distance of the Proton Center building. Thanks to the efforts of the Endowment Fund, the entire facility is reserved only for PTC patients, who can also stay with their loved ones for the duration of treatment at a price miles away from the current market prices of short-term accommodation in Prague. This is a big step forward, but despite the efforts of the Endowment Fund, some patients still cannot afford to take it.

However, if you would like to support them on their journey to recovery, we offer the opportunity to get involved in the Donate a Temporary Home project. By buying stickers in the value of 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000 Czech crowns at the bar at the PTC main reception, you will help patients in a difficult life situation to have a stable base for the entire duration of treatment, and thus enable them to start proton treatment.
