Information about MRI for Physicians

The Proton Center in Prague offers selected diagnostic tests, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET/CT). We perform examinations not only for cancer patients of the Proton Center, but also for all other patients for whom the attending physician issues a request form.

The Department of Radiodiagnostics performs the following examinations:

  • MRI of the head (e.g. the brain, including MR angiography, brain spectroscopy),
  • MRI of the limbs, joints, spine (cervical, thoracic, or lumbar)
  • MRI of soft tissues,
  • MRI of the neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis,
  • MR angiography,
  • MR spectroscopy,
  • MR cholangiopancreatography (MRCP)
  • MRI of the breasts

Appointment scheduling periods are short, ranging from 2 to 4 weeks. We will be happy to call you if an earlier appointment becomes available.

1. How to book an MRI appointment

Please send the completed MRI request form with patient data, including justification, detailed specification of the MRI scanning, stamp and signature, to the following e-mail address: zadanky@ptc.cz.

Another option is to fill out the application on-line: after clicking on the link, please fill in the required information and press the button “Submit application”.

We will notify you about the nearest available appointment no later than the following business day.

For some types of MRI scans, it may be necessary to administer a contrast agent. For this reason, we require prior laboratory testing of the patient’s renal functions. This prevents the need to perform only a “simple” examination, which yields less comprehensive results, or to postpone the patient’s appointment until the laboratory results are obtained.

We can also perform quality screenings under general anaesthesia for paediatric patients as well as for adult patients with specific problems (claustrophobia).

2. MRI – download for doctors

· Patient information – Magnetic resonance imaging (downloadable PDF)

We have prepared basic information about MRI scanning for your patients to ease their fears and worries.

· Patient’s informed consent for MRI scanning (downloadable)

The patient can read the informed consent for magnetic resonance imaging in the comfort of their own home. The patient can only fill it out and sign it when he/she visits the Proton Center.
